fish man +1

here's a sketchbook page, pen drawing, goache on top. pretty quick and sloppy, using lost and found to get around the hard parts, but i am really happy with the highlight on the head.

and here is a monster doodle,

I like to tape clean paper over the bad parts of a drawing and just redraw them again until i like it, this is a nice way to do things, the golden age illustrators used a lot of tracing paper in this way as well, i just havent had a chance to experiment much with tracing paper that much yet.

i suppose that i'm from that school of drawing where you draw confidently and don't dwell much on mistakes, if it's bad just start over on a fresh page, that way you keep everything spontaneous and quick looking.

the "secret" to drawing though is you can never get things right the first time, you have to do all sorts of studies and pre-drawings to really nail every aspect and explore every idea, then once you have it all figured, you go into your final illustration concerned solely about paint application, but value, color, design and drawing have already been figured out. this is a hard thing to learn, i am still working on it.

on second thought of course, you do get lucky sometimes, sometimes a lot of lucky

Some nice thoughts george, but don't you think that you are getting a little too deep for 7:30am.
